Money God

As I lay me down to sleep
I pray on credit my soul will keep
And if I die before I take
My loving kin can pay the wake
Life won’t be worth living
If I confuse the take with giving
It will tear my world asunder
If my credit card goes under
I have no need of virtue
What can’t be bought can’t hurt you
But I’ll try to show compassion
As I wear the latest fashion
For those still poor enough to be saving
While I’m out, grossly spent and misbehaving
The grandest house, the nicest car
So much I own, I’m much better by far
If I spend much more, I’ll worry less
This hole within will fill and bless
The person that I may have been
Lost beneath the crumpled green
Amen
